Our appreciation goes to Mohonasen Superintendent,
Dr. Kathleen Spring, as well as
the Mohonasen School District Board of Education,
Assistant Superintendent Patrick McGrath, Jr.,
Mohonasen High Principal David Collins,
Draper Middle School Principal Debra Male,
the monitors and custodial staff and especially
Mohonasen Coordinator Lori Ranze,
who worked hard to ensure that every detail was covered.
Also, kudos to all of the participating school districts and their coaches and teams. We thank the judges, volunteers and score room officials. The day wouldn't happen without you!

The one constant thing is that we (kids and adults) learn from the experiences and grow as a result. That's what the Odyssey is about and that's why I put myself through it year after year.
Cathi Butryn - Paige Elementary School Coach

I was impressed with the Cobleskill team, they're just SO GOOD...the team is so down to earth. Our team ran into them after the competition outside and the two teams started talking about mistakes each had made and telling each other it didn't matter - watching the two groups of teens who were competing against each other and didn't know one another treat each other so supportively truly impressed me - not many adults behave that well! Thanks again for everything!
Jacquie Carbone - Schenectady High School Coach

Three OMER Awards were presented to teams at our tournament this year. OMERs are awarded to teams or individuals who exemplify the spirit and philosophy of Odyssey of the Mind. OMERs may be given to coaches, team members, parents, officials or others who have served as positive examples or role models by their actions and words or to team members who exhibit exceptional skill, good sportsmanship and/or teamwork.

Recipients this year were:

Academy of the Holy Names, who performed the Problem 1, Earth Trek Problem, division 3. They were coached by Jim McKeon. One of the team members, Arianna, had surgery and was not well enough to practice with the team. Doctor's orders. The team made arrangements with Arianna to call her from rehearsals and put her on speaker phone so she was able to participate. As a result, she was included in the problem solution and the first time the team executed the problem together was at the actual tournament.

Paige Elementary School, Schenectady School District, who performed Problem 4, Shock Waves, division 2. They were coached by Cathi Butryn. Their team's performance was interrupted by a fire alarm in which everyone was evacuated from the building. Following this, the team resumed their performance without missing a beat. They were positive, upbeat and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship.

Middleburgh Central School, Team C, who performed Problem 5, Superstition, division 3. They were coached by Tracy Manning. One member of the team has been in and out of the emergency room many times over the last two weeks. Members of the team switched roles and changed the script to include him while also making sure his role was covered. Despite having difficulty walking and standing, the ill team member was at the tournament.
